I have a 12 yo newfoundland dog is the hearth of my wife but the pain on one of his hype seems to be getting worse the vet keep trying to do test after test and the bills are just pilling with no improve what can i do??
The best answer is by :
zamarel : Big dogs do get hip problems when they get older. There are supplements for arthritis at the pet stores that may help. They even have foods with ingredients that help also. Ask the vet what kind of pain releiver you can give. I think also sell dog aspirin at certain pet stores.

My poor little Chihuhua either strained his neck muscle or has a bulging disk, so the vet prescribed a muscle relaxant & a mild pain killer. The way I normally give him his pills is I wrap it in a small piece of bread. Well this morning I think he realized there's a pill in there so he wouldn't touch it. I put a little butter on the top and he ate it.
Can anyone else think of a way to administer his meds?
The following reply is by : Ista : When my male chi was an "only child" he'd never take a pill hidden in anything! He'd sniff it first, and turn it down if it had medicine in it. I had to hold him tightly, pry his little mouth open, carefully jam the pill in the back of his mouth, hold his mouth closed and rub his throat. No fun.
Now that I'm married, and he has "siblings", my husband's dachshund, and the baby chi I got last summer, competition is a great thing! I get a slice of cheese from the fridge, break it up in to pieces, turn my back to them, and put the pill in his piece, and mush the cheese around it. Then I give everybody their "treats". He eats it so fast, to keep the others from having it, that he doesn't bother to "examine" it anymore!
I love it! It's so much easier.

Ok, I have NO idea what happened. All I know is this morning my dog yelped and I ran down the stairs to see her and she was laying down under the table. I called her to me and she came. But she has been acting strange ever since. She yelps when you touch her in the wrong spot and she is shivering. Do you think that this will heal or is the tremors a sign that something is really wrong? She is a very small dog, only 4 lbs. I'm worried.
The following reply is by : Dig It : Watch her very carefully. Small dogs can be injured very easily, so she may have fallen down the stairs or otherwise been injured and now is hurting. Is she eating ok? Can she walk? Is her belly painful? If it were me I'd bring her to the vet, but that is because I have a small dog and I don't take chances with my dog. Shivering can be a sign of pain, or a sign of a low temperature- which she may have if she is injured and in shock. My best advice is if you cannot afford to go to the vet, call one and ask for advice. 24-hour emergency vets are always there to help you and the phone call is free. Keep her warm and make sure she is eating. If she is not or begins to be really lethargic, please bring her in to the vet.

My dog appears to be moving slowly this winter. I am suspecting arthritis despite his age of 4 years old.
This is was answered by :
furbratz : 4 years is very young for arthritis. It may be an injury. I'd go to a vet before trying any medication.

My dog's eyelid was cut pretty bad and i am kinda scared for him.
The question was answered by :
♥Daisy♥ : Take the dog to the vet. He needs to be checked.
You never know how bad the laceration really is unless the vet checks it out to see.
A dog will shiver, tremble, shake, whine, yelp, hide, refuse to eat, sleep all day.
Honestly if the cut is bad get the dog to the vet soon.

My boston terrier was on his walk as usual and was mauled by a pit bull on a loose leash.Well he was bitten in the neck area and it looks like the area around his eye is swollen.Whats the best care I can do for my dog before I can take him in to the vet hopefully on monday.I heard coated asprin works. He is about 30 pounds.
The following reply is by : Dee M : Please call the emergency vet or your vet if he has an after hours phone number, do not give anything without your vet's ok. You could cause more problems.

Okay our dogs got into a fight and one ended up getting wounds on her body, they dont look to bad and the only places that really hurt her are the places that seem brusied. She is barely eating and drinking and is always panting. What could we give her to relieve at least some of her pain?
The question was answered by :
walking lady : If she's barely eating and drinking, and panting because of the amount of pain she's in, she very obviously needs to get to the vet ASAP to be checked out for possible internal injuries. Also, there are NO human pain meds that a dog can take long term safely.

I have a 14 year old yorkie who i'ved had since i was 5. Recently she started having difficulty breathing and pants alot. She will go through these phases where she will be coughing and grasping for air. Today i took her to the vet and they did blood work and x rays. They called me back a few hours later and said for the whole family to come in this afternoon. I know the news is bad, and we expected it. My mom is having a hard time and we are contemplative wether to put her to sleep or not. She seems not to be in pain, but she looks lost and dillusional. I dont know what to do honestly, and my heart aches. My whole family has taken the day off work and my dad thinks its best to put her down. I just know its going to be hard without her, and our other dog has been whining all morning. I just want to make sure she wont feel pain if she goes and i want her to rest peacefully.
This is was answered by :
Reika : The decision to euthanize is always a hard one to make. I'm sorry to hear that you must make such a decision. Euthanasia is the most humane way to put an animal out of suffering. I can't make the decision for you, but I can say that euthanasia is not a painful way to end. A dog drifts off peacefully. Not in pain and not in suffering. I only hope that if you make this decision you will stay with the dog until the end. It would be much easier for the dog if you were there. I insure you that if you think your dog is suffering, this is the most peaceful way to go. I'm sorry.

My papillion is hurting and I cannot fiqure out where or what it is hurt, I have some idea that she might have a tooth ache can I give her my tooth ache pill Naproxin? I cannot afford to take her to a vet at this time, she is not too much in pain only when she moves a certain way.
The answer is provided by :
Laura ♥ : Honey you need to FIND a way to afford the vet. Borrow the money, charge it on a credit card, sell something on Craigslist. Your dog is in pain and she depends upon you.
Don't give her Naproxin, don't give her ANYTHING unless it's been prescribed (or advised) by your vet.

We know for sure she is in pain since it is quite obviouse in the way she howls. The vet had no idea of how to help except maybe trying a medication that is not actrually meant for that and I don't want to put my dog on meds plus I really don't think it would help. Unfortunately the train goes by several times a day and since she would much rather be outside, she gets the brunt of it. Has anyone experienced the same thing with thier dog and came up with a way to help? My dog is part lab by the way.
The following reply is by : criminal_justice2007 : Your dogs not in pain, dogs hearing is more sensative than a human, so the sound actually seems alot louder to a dog, than us humans.
