My dog has bone spurs and limps if he has been playing a lot.
Is there a human pain reliever I could give him?
The answer is provided by :
friendly_face : Aspirin. Don’t give Tylenol.
You might also want to give glucosamine on a daily basis to help with joint health.

It's hard for her to get up. We have try ed to give her med.s from her vet, They didn't work. So what can we do for her ?
The following reply is by : sokokl : I would recommend calling the vet back to let them know what's going on.
Also, as far as the issue of medicines there are places where you can get them for cheaper than at the vet's office (I did this several times with the medicines my dog had to take when he was alive-he died almost 7 months ago due to old age, he was 17 1/2 years old).
If the vet says about bringing the dog back in for a check-up ask them about making payments on the bill to help with some of the cost. In the mean time keep her resting lots as that should help ease some of the pain.

I have some rimadyl 25mg from my 7lb dogs spaying a while ago and my dog that was spayed today in 31lbs and I want to know if and when I can give her some. she has been whining and it makes me want to cry!! If anyone knows, information on that or other ways to ease her pain would be very helpful!
The following reply is by : RaWen : Call your vet. If you can’t get ahold of him, don’t medicate the dog. You could cause it damage.

I can't believe I even have to ask this — I SHOULD KNOW. But I think I'm too close to him, I'm not objective. So please help me — what signs should I look for that might tell me if my old dog is in pain or if he's just old and slightly confused. I'll talk to my vet on Monday, but I could use some answers sooner. Thanks.
The following reply is by : lathom01 : Aside from the obvious yelping, there are several other indicators. Dogs have different pain tolerances and will all react differently to pain. For dogs who have been in chronic pain for a while, it's harder to detect because they grow used to it and adapt. Arthritic type pain will usually show when the dog has been inactive for a while (like when waking in the morning). He'll be stiff and reluctant to move much. Acute pain, on the other hand, may show itself by causing the dog to tremble when it isnt cold, pant when he isnt hot, and will raise his heart rate. He may carry his head and his tail lower, and (if you're in tuned to your dog's little nuances) you may notice his ears are drooped down and his eyes dont have that "sparkle"). If it were just a case of confusion, your dog may be doing things like forgetting he is housebroke, and he may stop and stare at things for a while (as if he's seen it before but still isnt quite sure what it is…). If your dog is old and other causes of pain have been ruled-out, put him on a Glucosamine medication. There's hundreds of canine Glucosamine meds available over the counter. Good luck!

My dog is twelve years old and about sixty-five pounds. He has arthritis pain in his legs. My family is wondering what to give him and how much. We’re looking for an over the counter remedies though. Thanks everyone.

Ellie : I just dealt with this problem in my Golden Retrieve a few weeks ago. My mom and I went to Petco and found some pain medication meant for dogs. I just ran downstairs and found out it is called Nutri-Vet K9 Asprin. It worked really well with my Golden. She was unable to get up due to her hips but we gave it to her before bed and by the next morning she was fine. I highly recommend getting medication meant for dogs, not humas.

My dog today is having some pain i can’t tell where he is feeling it or what it could be.He can walk fine but gets a sharp pain as he randomly cries out.He isn’t moving around as much because the pain has upset him but i don’t know what it could be.He is eating, drinking fine.He hasn’t been to the toilet since morning so im thinking it may be constipation although this long without the toilet isn’t uncommon for him so i don’t really know what it is and im worried….any ideas?

Chihuahua Addict R.I.P. Gigi! : We would only be guessing why he might be in pain. If your dog is in pain, then you need to take him to the vet and have him looked at. We are not vets, and cannot diagnose your dog over the Internet. There are so many different reasons, why he could be in pain, and the only person that can tell you what that reason is, is a vet!

My dog hasn’t been sleeping for a day now, she went to the vet to get checked up and had medication for her stomach, but she cannot rest because of the pain. Even when she’s about to lay on her stomach she goes right back up because she can’t bear the pain.
This is was answered by :
chezwoof : Call your vet!, this is not normal! They will give you something for her to be more comfortable. It’s not fair to leave her in pain.

Well I have a golden retriever, and shes about 6 years old now tee-hee :]. And i love her soooo much lol ^_^. Well i just want to know signs because it takes her a long time to get up, when shes laying down…And shes slightly over weight :]…Ok ok..She IS overweight haha about 100lbs. I mean is…is there signs if she has pains?…Or should we just take her to the vet?
The best answer is by :
Fields of Gold : Well, the first thing to do is get.that extra weight off her . If she loses the weight she will find it a lot easier to get up.
I have just had to get some weight off my 9 yr old female and I did it by reducing her daily intake by one third. She weighed 80 lbs which I considered to be far too much. An adult female should weigh no more than 72 lbs. After two weeks she had lost 5 lbs. and now after 1 month her weight has come down to 74 lbs. so it can be done with a little perseverance.
Try and give her more exercise if you can, even if it is just throwing a ball or a frizbee for her to fetch,.A few minutes a day is all she needs right now and you can gradually build up the exercise as she begins to lose the weight.
She shouldn’t be experiencing pain in her joints at her age
but carrying all that extra weight will definitely take its toll on her joints and her heart if you don’t do something about it asap.
Good luck with her.

My dog has been prescribed narcotic pain killers for his pain associated with terminal cancer. He doesn't need the meds around the clock, they're only to be given as needed (which isn't often).
I know the obvious signs of pain, but since dogs, unlike us, never learned that showing pain may mean relief, they tend to keep it to themselves.
So what are some subtle pain signs?
The answer is provided by :
panache : Isolating itself, finding a dark area hid,lip licking, pacing, fear of quick movement avoiding jumping or other activities that cause pain and some dogs become clingy when feeling poorly

She weighs 13 pounds. Can I give her half a baby aspirin for pain? We're taking her to the vet tomorrow since it's late, but she still hurts when she moves. We can't call the vet now (it's closed) and I read that it can work. Just double checking.
The answer is provided by :
ericamariegreen : consult with ur vet…since its closed there is a vet that you can talk to online @www.doineedavet.co.uk
