I've seen the Frontline Plus for Dogs in Target, but never the cat brand. My local pet store does not sell it either.
If I go to the vet can I just buy it over the counter, or do I have to make an appointment, or get a prescription -_-? I also heard I can buy just 1 applicator at the vet, does your vet do that too?
The question was answered by :
sarah : It is OTC at your vet, or any vet.
PLEASE do not buy it anywhere but a vet. Merial (the maker) swears up and down they do not sell to anyone but vet clinics. So. I'm voting backdoor clinics, compromised product, or conterfeit. Plus, the cost is rarely any cheaper than your vet.
You CAN buy 1, or they come in 3-pks and 6-pks (with a free dose only from your clinic).

I was in Target the other day and noticed they are selling Frontline Plus. Has anyone bought any from Target for their pet. It is a few dollars cheaper than my Vets office.
The question was answered by :
•Kansas• •Girl• : If it's Frontline, I'm sure it's fine, it's probably the exact same stuff. Target probably just buys it in bulk, so that would make it cheaper.

Any advice on getting rid of very persistant flea problems? I've been using Frontline Plus on my cat, K-9 Advantix on my dog, a flea comb to physically remove the fleas (followed by drowning them in hot water), flea powder on both pets, flea spray on the carpet that is supposed to kill adults and eggs, and we've been vacuuming daily and washing all bedding frequently. WE STILL HAVE FLEAS!!! Both pets are purely indoor animals.
Anyone had a similar problem, and if so, how did you finally get rid of them?
Oh yeah, forgot to mention we have been giving flea baths, also!
The question was answered by :
country_danes : Flea sprays should be used not only on the carpet, but also on base boards, in cracks, under couches, anywhere there is a crack or material.
Also, after you have treated everything with the flea stuff, you must treat everyone again on a monthly basis for 3-5 months, as fleas can live dormant somewhere for months but will eventually die off if they don't have an animal host.

Yesterday at around 10am the groomers put frontline plus on my dog, well it is now 9am. How long should I wait before I can pet her? I hate washing my hands.
The answer is provided by :
2 Paws Up : The fronline has had enough time to work it way around the dogs skin. You can pet her now! Just dont pet her where they applyed the frontline.

You know the flabby part of their tummy that usually has a thinner layer of fur on it? Well, my cat's stomach used to have this layer of fur there, but now he's completely bald there. You can see his pink skin and everything when he's sitting up. I looked at it and its not irritated or anything. He couldn't possibly have fleas since we use frontline on our pets. Plus its just this one area. Is this just something that comes with age in male cats? He's 9 or 10 years old (we're not sure of his exact age, but the vet estimated his age to be 2 or 3 when we got him 7 years ago).
I don't think he's had an unusual amount of stress lately. Nothing has changed in his environment.

well, my 11 month year old cat has fleas. My sister bought Frontline Plus online but it came with this weird tube thing and you could tell it was really Frontline for Dogs. Stupidly, we used it on our cat and she got all itchy and started pulling her fur out, so we washed it off. She's okay now.
So, now she still has fleas and now she has to sleep in the garage and she barley gets any attention now. The local pet hospital refuses to give us any cat flea medicine without giving her a $50 check up.
i already bought another 100% authentic Frontline Plus for Cats on ebay, because the pet hospital was giving me a lot of trouble.
first they said: i could only purchase 2
(i came back in two weeks, because i had to get the money)
second: they said i needed someone 18 years or older with me
third: they said they cant give me any at all without a checkup.
should i just take her to the checkup? i mean, what if she's fine but they lie to me and take all my money? HELP!
The following reply is by : Amelia : Don't give up! No, you do not need a check up to use flea products ( your vet is being a jerk ). I see this kind of stuff at my job all the time! Use Advantage for cats ( really it is the safest and best ). Call your local pet stores cause some of them carry it! ( Pet Supply Plus does if you have one in your area ). DO NOT use the cheap ones like Hartz or Biospot! DO NOT use any with tick repellent, and DO NOT use any for dogs!!!! We see cats weekly where I work who have violent reactions ( seizures ) and it is very expensive to save your cat once it has a bad reaction!

My neighbor has around ten cats. The are not cared for properly and now our yard is infested with fleas. We have an indoor cat. She occasionally will sneak outside because the three and five year olds let her out. I started treating her with Frontline Plus back in July. I didn't give her a treatment for November thinking it was too cold and that she would be ok. Well, yesterday I noticed her scratching a lot, so I treated her again…today I saw two fleas jumping ship. Do I assume that my house is infested? In all of this time no one has seen a flea on them or anywhere in the house. Is it possible for a pet to have fleas without a full blown infestation occurring in the house? I have vaccuumed and washed key bedding and sleeping areas. Any advice?

Shannon W : Frontline and Advantage are supposed to kill the fleas, so they should still be dying after they jump off. Make sure you clean everything thoroughly, which it sounds like you did. You might want to get a spray for fabrics, and just do a once over around the house to be sure they're all dead. It should be fine after that.

is there a natural flea med. that is not harmful to pets or people? i use frontline plus, but i was wondering if there is something else that i can use that is better for humans and dogs? thanks
The question was answered by :
Calamitty : I've found in the past 10 plus yrs. nothing better than the Frontline Plus.. With 4 dogs and 4 cats and no fleas, I love it and so do all my critters. I've tried other treatments natural and all but it didn't help like frontline does. I've no hot spots, infections, less shedding due to less chewing and scratching and so on. Also I've personally only seen in over 10 yrs. one cat react to the medication. He's fine, and they know use Advantage for him. I've not heard of any humans that have gotten sick but like everything someones bound to be allergic.
I guess it's like us. I've tried natural repellents to keep the mosquito's off and ticks. But it never fails I've gone back to the Deet, every time.
I've tried naturals with the horses and I've not found anything for them either.
I will be reading reports would be nice to find something for all of them and myself that WILL work, like it should.

My 4 month old Shiba Inu is on Frontline plus and still has some fleas on him occasionally, on top of that I see that he has dry skin. When I pet him I see flakes of skin. I also am noticing that he is losing fur, maybe shedding? I know shibas shed 2 times a year…
SOOOO….would it be a good idea to take him to a dog groomer to get him professionally bathed/flea dipped to help with dry skin?
OR would it be too harsh on him to get a flea dip since he has dry skin?
Don't tell me to take him to the vet to get him checked out…he has an appointment on Friday anyways…

Maggiesmama25 : Hello, as a professional groomer for 11yrs I'd like to help.
My first question is..
1. what do you feed your dog? what type of food?
Usually discount brands, the ones sold in grocery stores and Pedigree are basically like feeding your child Mc Donalds everyday. They can cause dry skin (obesity, internal problems and more) from poor quality ingredients.
A premium dog food like Solid Gold, Innova, Natural Balance may be a nice start.
You can also drop a 200mg vitaimn E in the dogs food (or in a treat) everyday.
2. Shibas "blow coat" 2 times a year and yes, professional grooming will help. Groomers use a "forced air dryer" which is a high forced blow dryer, it will blow out excess shedding hair much more so than brushing ever will. A regular schedule with a groomer (every 4-5 weeks will help even more)
3. K9Advantix works better than Frontline but Frontline is fine.
Fleas can be on your dog with the frontline on him, it doesn't kill them immediatly. If there are fleas where your dog is (they can live in your carpet, furniture etc) so you need to treat your home as well.
4. Flea dipping is awful for dogs. A real dip is NOT washed off. The dog is dipped the left to dry with the chemicals on him. (a flea bath will only kill what is on the dog, when he enters the home fleas can jump right back on) A dip will kill fleas that jump on but also dry out the skin.
Your vet may try to sell you expensive products (omega 3 tabs ext..you don't need them)
In closing..
A food change to a high quality food (solid gold had omega 3 fish oils and human grade ingredients) a vitamin E tab once a day, a regualr schedule of professional grooming and frontline or K9Advantix every month (wait a week after or before application for a bath) will do your dog a world of good.
